Messages only arrive when I open the app: notifications missing

Settings › Apps › WhatsApp › Notifications: turn everything on

Make sure message and group notifications are on too.

Menu names may be slightly different on your phone brand.

  2. On the same page: Battery › Unrestricted

    Phones often put apps to “sleep” to save battery, so new messages arrive late.

  3. Turn off Do not disturb and Battery saver

    Swipe down from the top. If a tile is blue, tap it once to turn it off.

Makers’ own battery savers

Some brands (Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Realme) add settings like Autostart and Lock in recent apps. Turn them on for WhatsApp if notifications are still late.

Data saver

Settings › Network › Data saver stops apps using data in the background. Add WhatsApp to “Unrestricted data”.

Per-chat notifications

A group or chat may be muted: open it, tap the name › Notifications.
