Technical details (for the curious)
Filter Keys
An accessibility feature that ignores short or repeated presses. It can switch on by accident when you hold the right Shift key for 8 seconds. Sign: you must hold a key down before the letter appears.
The keyboard driver
Device Manager › Keyboards: usually “Standard PS/2 Keyboard” (the laptop keyboard) and “HID Keyboard Device” (USB keyboards). If the laptop keyboard stops completely after an update, try Uninstall device and restart.
Only some keys dead
If a whole row of keys is dead, or something was spilled, it is a hardware fault. Use a USB keyboard for now and take it to a repair shop.
