Technical details (for the curious)
Automatic vs manual duplex
Printers with automatic duplex turn the paper over themselves. Most cheap home printers don’t, so Word prints the first side and you feed the stack back in.
How to put the pages back for side two
On printers that feed from the back: take the printed stack, turn it over (blank side facing you) and keep the top of the pages at the top. Test with 2 pages first.
Long edge vs short edge
Long edge: flips like a book (portrait documents). Short edge: flips like a calendar (landscape documents).
