Lock the laptop when you step away

Step 1 of 3

Press Win + L

The screen locks instantly. All your apps stay open behind it.

  2. When you come back, press any key and type your PIN

    Everything is just as you left it.

  3. Lock automatically when the screen turns off

    Settings › Accounts › Sign-in options › choose “When PC wakes up from sleep”.

Why lock instead of shutting down

Locking takes one second and closes nothing. Nobody can open your email, WhatsApp Web or bank while you are away.

Dynamic lock

Settings › Accounts › Sign-in options › Dynamic lock locks the laptop automatically when your phone (paired by Bluetooth) moves away.

Screen off sooner

Set Settings › System › Power › Screen and sleep so the screen turns off after a few minutes; with step 3’s setting the laptop asks for the PIN when it wakes.
