Technical details (for the curious)
Bluetooth vs a USB receiver
A mouse with a small USB receiver doesn’t need pairing; just plug the receiver in. A Bluetooth mouse connects straight to the laptop’s Bluetooth, so your USB ports stay free.
Mice that remember several devices
Many mice have a channel button (1-2-3). Make sure you are on the same channel you paired on.
Jerky pointer
Replace the battery, keep it away from the router or USB 3 drives, and turn off Bluetooth power saving in Device Manager › Bluetooth › Properties › Power Management.
